SUMMARY:Submit a pitch for the March 6th Clown Flex!
DESCRIPTION:We are looking for six 5-8 minute long clown acts for our March Clown Flex! \nThe show will take place on Wednesday\, March 6th at 8pm at Brooklyn Arts Haus and will be hosted by Julia Proctor and Lex Alston. \nWho should apply: experienced performers with a funny/beautiful/creative/stupid/superintelligent clown act\, who have attended or taught at least one Clown Gym workshop. It should be well-rehearsed and something you’re very excited to share. \nVibe of our show: funny\, creative\, messy\, innovative\, moving\, full of love. Clown! Whatever that means to you. Note: do not make a literal mess in your act. \nIf accepted\, we prefer that you do not perform this same act the week before our show. \nA note on how we curate: \nThe producers review all submissions and decide together as a group. We aim to create a balanced and varied evening. This includes: \n\na combo of solo\, duo and group acts\na range of approaches from clown including red nose\, physical comedy that does not rely on words\, to more talking/verbal comedy and things in between\nwe accept one or two other forms like bouffon\, but try to keep most acts in the world of clown\na balanced range of new work to a work in progress to an excerpt of a longer produced show.\n\nWe only feature a performer once a season. \n  \nTo apply you must be available for: \n1. Company rehearsal on Thursday February 22nd from 7-10pm in Midtown. \n2. Tech rehearsal from 4-7pm at the venue the day of the show (we can stagger call times if you work during these hours). \n3. 8pm performance\, 7:30 call time on Wednesday March 6th. The call time for performers is 8:00 PM\, and you must arrive by 8:15 or your slot will be given to someone on the wait list.\n\nThere are 8 short (up to 5 minute) slots\, plus one 10-15 minute headlining Work in Progress slot for artists who are working on longer pieces and would like to try those in front of an audience. The hosts will let you know when you have one minute left of stage time.\nThe Clown Gym Open Mic is a booked open mic. The form will go live one week before the show and be open for 48 hours. \nFor the December 14th Show\, the form opens at 12pm on Thursday\, December 7th and closes at 12pm on Saturday December 9th. Everyone will be notified of their status by the evening of Sunday\, December 10th. \nThere are limited slots\, and we will prioritize acts from new and underrepresented artists in order to create an engaging show. DESCRIPTION:Days after Russia invaded Ukraine\, CWB started receiving emails saying “when are you going” or “can I go clown with you in Ukraine.” In fact\, every time a natural disaster or conflict makes international headlines\, Clowns Without Borders is asked to Send in The Clowns. \nIn this presentation\, we’ll explore when and why Humanitarian Clowning is effective\, and how CWB decides when (and how) to go on tour. Drawing on Clowns Without Borders’ 25 years of experience\, we’ll cover best-practices for performing in a humanitarian setting\, including ethics\, child safety\, and if there really is such a thing as the universal language of clowning. DESCRIPTION:SIGN UP HERE!\nOur next Open Mic will take place on Thursday\, 9 November\, at 8:30 p.m. at Pine Box Rock Shop (12 Grattan St\, Brooklyn\, NY 11206). The call time for performers is 8:00 PM\, and you must arrive by 8:15 or your slot will be given to someone on the wait list.\n\nThere are 8 short (up to 5 minute) slots\, plus one 10-15 minute headlining Work in Progress slot for artists who are working on longer pieces and would like to try those in front of an audience. The hosts will let you know when you have one minute left of stage time.\nThe Clown Gym Open Mic is a booked open mic. The form will go live one week before the show and be open for 48 hours. \nFor the 9 November Show\, the form opens at 9 AM on Thursday\, 2 November and closes at 9 am on Saturday 4 November. Everyone will be notified of their status by the evening of Sunday\, 5 November. \nThere are limited slots\, and we will prioritize acts from new and underrepresented artists in order to create an engaging show. If you’re not selected this time around\, please come to the show to support your fellow clowns and pitch again next month! Clown! Whatever that means to you. Note: do not make a literal mess in your act. \n\nIf accepted\, we prefer that you do not perform this same act the week before our show.\n\nA note on how we curate:\nThe producers review all submissions and decide together as a group. We aim to create a balanced and varied evening. Perhaps you’ve even quelled that rebellious and nonconformist part of you and have passed into resignation mode. \nBut as clowns\, it is our role to be provocative; question the status quo\, voice our discontent\, deflate the arrogance of the powerful\, mock absurd regulations\, be irreverent\, insolent\, and bold enough to poke fun at anything and everything. \nIn this workshop\, we will engage in foolishly disrespectful activities. You’ll be invited to risk severe clown punishment to stand for the underdog and incite them to resist. You’ll explore the fun of being righteously angry\, of lodging a complaint\, of making up ridiculous laws and of parodying authority figures (behind their backs). And be guided on how to do this in a way that inspires others to recognize their conventionality and dare to be different. \nRebel Clown will challenge and stretch your boundaries\, give you ample opportunities to fully enjoy your rebellious spirit and inspire you to let your clown find creative ways to disrupt the status quo. \nABOUT CAROLINE DREAM \nOf British origin\, resides in Barcelona (Spain) from 1989.
